ITALY TO HOST THE LOUIS VUITTON 38TH AMERICA’S CUP IN NAPLES, 2027

A new chapter in the legendary saga of the America’s Cup has been written. For the first time since the event’s inception in 1851, the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup Match and Louis Vuitton Cup will be held in Italy, with the historic city of Naples announced as the official Host City for the 38th America’s Cup, set to take place in the spring and summer of 2027.

The announcement, made jointly by Team New Zealand, the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, and the Government of Italy, marks a momentous milestone for both the sport of sailing and the city of Naples—a location steeped in history, beauty, and a passionate love for the sea.

🌊 Naples: The New Home of Sailing Glory

Nestled in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius and overlooking the shimmering waters of the Bay of Naples, the city offers an unparalleled stage for the America’s Cup. A UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Europe’s most ancient and charismatic cities, Naples is primed to deliver a regatta infused with Mediterranean spirit, cultural richness, and sporting excellence.

The races will unfold along the stunning coastline between Castel dell’Ovo and Posillipo, while the competing syndicates will establish their bases in Bagnoli, an area currently undergoing a major environmental and urban redevelopment.

🇮🇹 A National Triumph for Italy

The selection of Naples is a landmark moment for Italy’s sailing legacy, with Minister for Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi calling it a “team victory.” Backed by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the successful bid symbolizes Italy’s growing influence in global sporting events.

“Hosting the America’s Cup in Naples also represents a strategic opportunity to accelerate the environmental rehabilitation and urban regeneration of Bagnoli,” said Abodi. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime occasion that will make all Italians proud and leave the world breathless.”

Giancarlo Giorgetti, Minister of Economy and Finance, emphasized the economic and social impact:

“This prestigious event signifies a decisive step in the revitalization of Bagnoli and reflects our long-term commitment to its development.”

Gaetano Manfredi, Mayor of Naples, added:

“This will be the most significant sporting event ever hosted by our city—an opportunity to show the world Naples’ beauty, resilience, and ambition.”

🏆 Team New Zealand: Into the Lion’s Den

As the Defender of the Cup, Team New Zealand has embraced the challenge of sailing in Italian waters—home of fierce rival Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli.

Grant Dalton, CEO of Team New Zealand, remarked:

“There is a raw spirit and pride in Italy that is so appropriate for the America’s Cup. Bringing the Cup to Naples feels like bringing it to the people. Italians are the most passionate America’s Cup fans, and this event will elevate sailing to new heights.”

🧭 A Historic Return to Europe’s Shores

While Naples hosted America’s Cup World Series events in 2012 and 2013, this will be the first time the full America’s Cup is held in the country. Those earlier events drew over a million spectators to the waterfront, hinting at the scale and spectacle that awaits in 2027.

The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, as the Trustee of the Cup, hailed the decision:

“Italy has long been one of our most passionate rivals,” said Commodore David Blakey. “Bringing the Cup back to Europe and into the heart of one of sailing’s most vibrant cultures will showcase our sport, innovation, and camaraderie like never before.”

The World Watches Naples

The Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup promises not only cutting-edge AC75 racing, but also a strong focus on youth, women’s regattas, sustainability, and urban legacy. The city’s transformation—anchored by the Cup—will unlock tourism, inspire future sailors, and turn Naples into a global sailing capital.

As Italy prepares to welcome the world, Naples stands ready to write a new, unforgettable chapter in the story of the America’s Cup.
